A mid 19th century Riley Whiting shelf clock. 30 hr time and strike wooden works movement with a painted wooden dial. Mahogany case with carved crest, single long door with a reverse painted lower panel flanked by carved pilasters on a base with carved paw feet. Older finish with minor damage, lacks finials, running momentarily when cataloged. 29 1/2" high. ESTIMATE $300-400

Riley Whiting Column and Splat Shelf Clock, Winchester, Connecticut, early 1800’s mahogany case with half columns, stenciled columns and splat. Fruit and flowers on splat, claw feet, pinapple carved finials, hand painted dial. Beautiful label, “Modern Improved Clocks Made and Sold by Riley Whiting, Winchester, Conn.”, wooden works, weight driven, reverse painted glass tablet (has crack). Measures approx. 30″ tall x 17″ wide x 5 1/2″ deep.

Riley Whiting/Wm. Whiting 30 Hour Wood Works Shelf Clock: mahogany case with stenciled half columns and splat. Two carved pineapple finials on the top sides. Time and bell striking, weight driven.
(The lower mirror is a replacement, the wood dial looks original with some crazing. The upper glass plate is cracked in the upper right corner.)
29 3/4″ tall Running at this time and restored.

A carved American shelf clock by Riley Whiting (D 1835) of Winchester and Winsted, Connecticut. This in the “triple deck” fashion, with a reverse painted tablet below a mirrored frieze and a wood painted dial showing the seconds.
