Howard & Davis # 5 Banjo Clock with 8 day time only weight driven movement marked “Howard & Davis, Boston”, 8″ lacquered metal dial and brass pendulum bob. The mahogany case has some old finish showing, there is old glass in the throat, bottom door and the dial door. The movement looks clean. Circa. in the mid 1800’s.
(The case has been refinished and there are some extra screw holes by the movement that indicates that there may have been another movement in the case at some point. The dial looks to be old but has been lacquered, the pendulum stick has been repaired and the brass bob is not original.)

Rare Howard & Davis No. 4 Banjo Clock. Original 8 in. painted metal dial signed ÂHoward & Davis, Boston has black Roman hour numerals and blued open moon hands; brass weight driven 8 day time only movement signed ÂA. Howard, Boston and ÂD.P. Davis has a solid brass pulley, iron No. 4 weight, ebonized wood pendulum stick and brass covered bob. In a rosewood grain painted banjo style case with reverse gilt and black painted throat and tablet glasses. Nice overall condition, original finish, no inpainting to the glasses, weight baffle replaced, brass cover is loose from the bob. Albert Howard, a cousin of Edward Howard, went into partnership in Dec. 1858 as ÂE. Howard & CompanyÂ; in March of 1861 they formed a joint stock company called the ÂHoward Clock & Watch Company where Albert Howard was chosen as President and Edward as Superintendent & Treasurer. The factory was closed in May of 1863 and in October of the same year, Edward was able to reform the company with himself as President. 32 in. high x 13.5 in. wide x 4 in. deep. Weight: 17.25 lbs.

Original 12 in. painted metal dial signed ÂHoward & Davis, BostonÂ, has blued open moon hands; quality weight driven time only 8 day movement with pyramidal plates, Graham deadbeat escapement, maintaining power, Geneva stop, brass pulley, iron No. 1 weight, wood weight baffles with brass lockdown hardware, gold painted pendulum stick and brass covered bob. In a rosewood grained banjo style case with hinged flanged door bezel, original reverse painted gilt and black throat glasses and tablet signed ÂHoward & Davis, BostonÂ. In good condition with a cleaned and enhanced original finish, case veneer has minor seam splits in the round top, original glasses are excellent, lower door frame has been repaired along the hinge, tabs securing the throat are replaced. 50 in. high x 19.5 in. wide x 6 in. deep.
