The 2 tone bronze case depicts an allegory of trade, the prominent standing blackamore figure of a sailor with glass eyes, holds a pipe and rope and is leaning on a bail of tobacco, coin purse on the top, an anchor, oar and barrel are propped beside the bail; the base has a relief front panel with figural winged putti moving goods on and off of a ship with one logging records in a ledger, stands on 4 barrel shaped feet. Beautiful 3.25 in. porcelain dial is signed ÂChÂles Oudin, Eleve de BreguetÂ, has black Roman hour numerals and open moon hands; typical round brass 8 day spring driven silk thread movement with an half hour strike on a bell. 14.25 in. high x 11.25 in. wide x 3.5 in. deep. Dore bronze figure of a Spanish explorer, he is well dressed with feathered hat, cape, gold pendant, embroidered clothing and sword at his hip, he holds a bird in his left hand and his left knee is perched on a hillside, which has a deep brown patina; on a fancy dore gold base with French rococo designs. Set in the hillside is a gold bezel containing the damascened 3 in. silvered dial with black Roman numerals, open moon hands, signed Le Roy a Paris; has a quality French silk thread movement, strikes on a single bell. Has a 3 in. silvered chapter ring with black Roman numerals and open moon hands; typical round French brass silk thread movement signed Villemsens a Paris, count wheel strike mechanism strikes on a bell.
