French Figural Blackamore Silk Thread Mantle Clock. The 2 tone bronze case depicts an allegory of trade, the prominent standing blackamore figure of a sailor with glass eyes, holds a pipe and rope and is leaning on a bail of tobacco, coin purse on the top, an anchor, oar and barrel are propped beside the bail; the base has a relief front panel with figural winged putti moving goods on and off of a ship with one logging records in a ledger, stands on 4 barrel shaped feet. Beautiful 3.25 in. porcelain dial is signed “Ch’les Oudin, Eleve de Breguet”, has black Roman hour numerals and open moon hands; typical round brass 8 day spring driven silk thread movement with an half hour strike on a bell. 14.25 in. high x 11.25 in. wide x 3.5 in. deep.
