In a gilt brass case with fluted corner columns, arched beveled front glass, beveled glass on the sides and top, viewing the escapement, hinged handle and German inscriptions on back for speed regulator and alarm wind. Brass case has a turned hinged handle with faux bamboo turned brass corner columns, corner finials, hand painted porcelain side panels with full standing portraits of women and beveled glass on the front, rear door and top, viewing the escapement. J.E. Caldwell Quarter Hour Repeater Carriage Clock. An oval brass case with curved sides and beveled glasses, escapement exposed through the top, and alarm/repeater button. Black spade hour hand, enameled dial with black roman numerals and minute markers on the chapter ring and sub-dial below for the alarm; signed on the dial and movement “J.E. Caldwell”. Quality brass movement with silvered lever platform escapement, strikes on a single coiled gong. Switch on the bottom of the case for silent, hour and quarter hour strike. All appears to be running, strikes properly and balance has good brisk motion; 6″ high x 5″ wide x 4″ deep. Weight: 4.75 lbs.
