Gilt bronze mantle clock with bust of a scholar, 2nd quarter of the 19th century. Continental, possibly French. Gilt bronze clock with decoration of mathematic instruments and cherubs with books. Clock face with zodiac symbols. Top with bust of a bearded scholar with a ruff collar. Very finely cast details to the bronze.

The 8 day French spring driven brass movement is running and striking, has a half an hour strike on a bell, signed “Samuel Marti” on back; The figural cherub case has some wear to the gilt and a few rough spots on the marble. French Empire figural gilt bronze mantle clock. Gilt bronze figural Grecian winged female figure, seated with a butterfly resting on one shoulder, holding up part of her dress. Circular gilt Roman numeral dial with hour and minute hands, having a naturalistic rocaille surround atop a rectangular plinth base, with applied plaque to the front and scrolling bracket feet. Works marked G. B. and "6." 18 1/2" H x 12 3/8" W x 4 1/2" D. 19th century.
Deaccessioned by the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts Foundation to benefit the acquisitions fund.
