Description
Antique New Haven Clock Company bronze mantle clock decorated with J. J. & G. Low glazed earthenware tiles to sides face and top. Bronze case and applied tiles each having a matching scrolled ‘wind’ design, with leaves and dragonflies also being scene to porcelain plaques. Face having an ivory enamel design with black enamel Arabic numerals and notches. Bronze tone hour and minute hands. Hinged beveled glass screen. Movement appears to be original but has no apparent markings or numbering. Backs of tiles having impressed marks ‘J.&J.G. LOW. PATENT. ART TILE WORKS. CHELSEA. MASS..USA. COPYRIGHT 1884, by J.G. & J.F. LOW. Made 19th century, circa 1884. Measures 12 1/8″ height x 9 3/4″ width x 5 7/8″ depth (30.7cm x 24.7cm x 14.9cm).

A rare J. & J.G Low art tile bronze frame mantle clock. The clock is elegantly decorated in amber glaze majolica tiles with bees and leaves in high relief. The bronze frame of the clock is decorated with incised swirling patterns. The porcelain face of the clock possesses an open gear movement design. The clock houses a New Haven marked movement. Truly a very rare piece of fine quality. “
