Mitchell Atkins Column and Splat Shelf Clock, c. 1830’s. Mahogany case with acanthus carved columns and carved cornucopia splat, claw feet, label “Improved clocks, Manufactured by Atkins and Downs for Mitchell Atkins, Bristol, CT”. Brass works weight driven clock, hand painted dial, mirrored tablet, slight crack on top glass and slight veneer loss. Measures 35 1/2″ tall x 17″ wide x 4″ deep.

Mitchell & Atkins, Bristol, Conn. Column and splat shelf clock, wooden works, weight driven, 30 hour time and strike. Beautiful acanthus carved splat, in cornucopias with pinapple finials, claw feet, and stenciled half columns. Dial is painted raised gold, reverse painted glass with heart-shaped apeture, nice label, pendulum, measures approx. 30″ tall x 17″ wide x 5″ high. One pillar is loose.

Half columns and splat with stencil, hand painted raised gilt dial, reverse painted and stenciled lower tablet, nice label with American eagle “Patent Clocks, Invented by Eli Terry. Made and Sold at Plymouth, Connecticut, by Eli Terry & Son. Wooden works, weight driven shelf clock. Measures approx. 25 1/2″ tall x 17 1/2″ wide x 4 1/2” deep. Many Eli Terry Clocks which depict a home or building on the reverse painted glass tablet, are actual homes in the Town of Plymouth and surrounding Connecticut towns of the time period.

A mid 19th century American Column shelf clock, Manufactured for George Mitchell by Atkins & Downs, Bristol, Conn. 30-hour weight driven time and strike wooden movement with painted wooden dial. Mahogany case with scrolled crest, Pineapple finials, single door with reverse painted lower glass flanked by carved half columns on carved paw feet. Old finish with some wear, lower glass a good older replacement. Not running when cataloged. 30″ high.
