Dial repainted, chips at arbor hole and screw holes, missing 1 dial screw, some inpainting in throat glass. 29 in. high.

In a rosewood grain painted banjo style case with red, black & gilt reverse painted throat and door glasses. Case has an overcoated finish, repairs to bottom board and joints, replaced hinged screws in the lower door, repaired pendulum stick, replaced dial and repainted glasses; the ratchet spring for the drive train is loose, not allowing the clock to hold power after winding. 29 in. high x 12 in. wide x 4 in. deep.

19th Century E. Howard & Co. No. 5 banjo clock, outstanding case with grained rosewood finish and reverse painted panels, 28 1/2″h. x 12″w. x 3 3/4″d. This is a cabinet maker’s sample made for E. Howard, of superior construction, all evidence pointing to its having been overbuilt and rare. Pristine working movement, stamped; signature on dial. Proper replacement of weight baffle; otherwise very fine original condition.
