Early French Lantern Style Clock by J.B. Dutertre: circa mid 18th century. The movement’s back plate is signed in script and includes Paris. The 4″ porcelain dial is also signed by the maker. The brass case has a bell for striking on top; an alarm function is included. The sides of the case are heavy beveled glass. The brass movement has a verge escapement and is working at this time. An early key is with this clock.
(The dial has chips at all three key slots. The strike does not activate, it starts, then stops.)

Thomas Mudge Brass Lantern Clock. Single chain fusee movement with bell on top and doors on all sides but the front. Floral decorated and signed dial. Mudge worked in England during the mid and late 18th century. This style of clock was going out of fashion in the mid 18th century. Clock is running at this time.

Thomas Mudge Lantern Clock w/Fusee Movement: the 6 1/4″ ring dial is silver color. The inner brass plate is floral engraved. Above are 2 dolphins. The hands are steel. Mudge was a clock maker in 18th century England.
