Description
A rare and important Patented clock by Aaron Crane of New Jersey, featuring the torsion pendulum and running one year between windings. This is signed on the dial “Year Clock Co., New York A. D. Crane’s Patent”, with the typical four columns case and having an etched glass pendulum glass door and white dial, 21 1/4″ X 13″ X 8″.

Crane torsion pendulum clock
Description
A rare mid 19th century torsion pendulum clock by Aaron D. Crane (American, 1804-1860), who invented the “Crane’s Patented Year Clock” and use of the torsion pendulum for that clock. These Patents were issued while Crane was living in Caldwell, New Jersey in 1829 and 1841.
Condition
There is no guarantee of either the mechanical performance of clocks nor the completeness and originality of their parts and components.

c. 1846 Aaron Dodd Crane Year-Duration Torsion Clock
Description
Aaron Dodd Crane Year-duration Torsion Clock, New York, c. 1846, ebonized case with four freestanding columns, gilt capitals, pressed brass dial surround and applied case decoration, frosted glass tablet with lyre decoration, interior lined with green paper and a printed maker’s label stating in part, “Crane’s Patent Twelve Month Clocks, Manufactured by The Year Clock Co,” all housing a year-duration, brass, spring-powered, fuse movement regulated by a six-ball pendulum. Original paper dial has been replaced, interior green label shows signs of wear and loss. H. 21.25″ W. 12″ D. 8″. Overall good condition,
